A 23-year-old man was shot in the back in Midtown on Wednesday night, Atlanta police said.

The incident happened near 121 8th Street just before 9 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the man, who appeared to have been shot at least one time. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was said to be alert, breathing and conscious, Officer Ralph Woolfolk told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“The preliminary investigation suggests drugs may have been a factor in the shooting and the victim is said to have been familiar with the shooter,” Woolfolk said in an email.

No arrest have been made.
