A man was shot and seriously injured in an attempted carjacking at a DeKalb County gas station early Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. at the Citgo gas station at 2630 Gresham Road, said DeKalb police spokesman Steven Dean.

The victim was approached by two men who demanded his car, Dean said. When the man attempted to run away, one of the carjackers shot him in the back. He was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, Dean said.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Police are continuing to search for the two carjackers. They were described as black males in their early 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 and 140 to 150 pounds. Both were wearing all black; one had dreadlocks while the other had close-cropped hair.
