Man shot after answering knock on apartment door

A man was shot and wounded early Wednesday after answering a knock on the door of a southwest Atlanta apartment.

The incident happened at the Villas at Lakewood complex off Amal Drive.

"There was a knock on the door, the gentleman opened the door and after he opened the door, several gunshots were heard and that's when he was hit," Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs told Channel 2 Action News.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was hit twice in the stomach, Channel 2 reported. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting and have made no arrests.
