If Raul Moreno didn’t have his landscaping tools, a dump truck driver could be dead.
Moreno witnessed a dump truck crash Wednesday evening on Sigman Road in Conyers and didn't think twice about saving the driver, Channel 2 reported. The crash shut down Renaissance Drive.
The truck collided with an SUV, but a gray Honda caused the accident, Channel 2 reported. Police are still looking for the driver that caused the accident.
Moreno used his pruners to break a window and pull the driver from the truck before it burst into flames.
The driver, whose name had not been release, was taken to Rockdale Medical Center with minor injuries.
“Any accident scene is chaotic, even for first responders it can be intimidating,” Conyers police spokesman Sgt. Buck told Channel 2, “[Moreno] jumped into action and we’re thankful for a great outcome.”
T.J. McGiboney, Moreno’s boss, told Channel 2 Moreno has six children to think of but it didn’t keep him from risking his own life.
“There’s so many people depending on him and it’s like that never entered his mind,” McGiboney said. “His reaction was ‘I’ve got to save this man. I have to save him.’”
Moreno was modest about his heroic move simply saying, “I’m glad for him.”
