A man run over by his boat on Lake Allatoona Sunday morning has died, the state Department of Natural Resources has confirmed.

Robert Lewis, 52, of Dallas, was unconscious when boaters and rescue personnel pulled him from the water around 10:30 a.m., according to DNR spokeswoman Melissa Cummings. He was pronounced dead soon after.

Lewis’ boat circled the lake for 15 minutes at full throttle before finally running out of gas, DNR ranger Mike Barr said. Rangers and emergency personnel cleared the area near Allatoona Landing in Bartow County to avoid additional injuries.

The DNR’s Critical Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident, Barr said.
