A 39-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence and charged in the wrong-way death of a Doraville detective has been granted bond and released from jail, Channel 2 Action News reports.

A DeKalb County magistrate judge on Wednesday set total bond for Gene Jones of Atlanta at $265,000 on four counts: $250,000 on a vehicular homicide charge and $5,000 bond each on DUI, driving on the wrong side, and reckless driving charges.

Jones is accused of killing Detective Robert Wilson around 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 14 after the on-call detective left his home to investigate a home invasion, police said.

Police said Jones was driving his Jeep Laredo eastbound on I-20’s westbound lane when he  slammed head-on into a Ford Edge driven by Wilson near Wesley Chapel Road.

The 27-year-old detective, who was married and had a 6-year-old son, died at the scene.

Doraville police spokesman Gene Callaway told the AJC Wilson started with the department as a dispatcher in 2003 and became a sworn officer in 2007. He was promoted to detective corporal in September.
