A Roswell man was killed early Wednesday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving wrecked near the Marietta square.

The wreck happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Whitlock Avenue at Winn Street, just west of downtown Marietta.

Marietta police spokesman Michael Gardner said Craig Morrissey, 45, was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control and left the roadway.

The Jeep overturned and struck a tree, killing the Morrissey instantly, Gardner said.
