Norcross police have identified 72-year-old James Scarbrough as the person killed Saturday when a car crashed into his scooter near the intersection of Beaver Ruin and Indian Trail roads.

According to new details released Sunday, police said Scarbrough had waited for a green light to turn left onto Beaver Ruin Road when the car, already headed eastbound, ran through a red light and hit him. Police originally reported that Scarbrough had been on a motorcycle.

Charges are pending against the car's driver, 46-year-old Lorena Cortez-Nova. Cortez-Nova was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth for treatment. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, police said.
