Man in intensive care after shooting at Riverdale apartment

A man remains in intensive care at Grady Memorial Hospital after he was shot several times in a Riverdale apartment, Clayton County police said Tuesday.

Chris Stephens was shot several times shortly after 10 p.m. at the Pembroke Town Homes on 5790 Ga. Highway 85, police said.

Clayton County police arrested Demetrius James Anderson, 24, at a nearby apartment shortly after they were called to the scene. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of giving a false name, police said.

His bond has not been set, according to the Clayton County jail Website

According to police, Stephens and another person, Eddie Simmons, gave Anderson money to buy beer. The pair went looking for Anderson after about 20 minutes and found him in apartment No. 401.

Stephens and Anderson started arguing, police said. Anderson pulled out a silver handgun and shot Stephens several times, they said.

Anderson then pointed the gun at Simmons. Police said when the gun didn't fire, Anderson told Simmons, "Get away from here, you don't have anything to do with this."

Police said they found Anderson at another apartment and arrested him without incident after Stephens and Simmons identified him as the shooter.
