Police have identified the man fatally shot by DeKalb County police officers early Sunday morning.
Michael Perryman, 52, was shot by two officers after he lunged at them with a knife, DeKalb County spokeswoman Mekka Parish said Monday. She said no other information was available and that the shooting was under investigation.
Perryman allegedly pulled a knife on three women at a Chevron gas station in the 4400 block of Glenwood Road around 8:30 a.m. Two of the women flagged down two police officers at an Exxon gas station across the street, DeKalb County police officer Lt. C. Rorey told the AJC on Sunday.
The two officers, one who was in training, approached the man at a business next door to the Chevron station and gave him repeated instructions to drop the weapon, according to Rorey. The man didn't drop the weapon, and instead, came at the officers, Rorey said.
"Both officers opened fire on the suspect," Rorey said. He was taken to Grady Hospital where he later died, according to Rorey. Police have not identified the man who was fatally shot.
