A 40-year-old man is dead after an alleged fight with his children’s mother on Saturday.

Troris Murphy went to the Riverwood Townhouses on Flint River Road in Clayton County to visit with his children, police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

When officers arrived about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Murphy had been fatally shot and was lying in the yard.

He later died at Atlanta Medical Center, Marbury said.

Ernest Watson, the live-in boyfriend of Murphy’s children’s mother, shot Murphy several times after Murphy physically assaulted the woman, Marbury said.

Watson was later arrested at a nearby gas station and charged with felony murder, cruelty to children and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
