A Doraville library patron reported to police that a  convicted sex offender was performing a lewd act while sitting in a public computer  after the librarians declined to make the call, the authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Officers arrested the man, Preston Lloyd, a short time later at a nearby MARTA station on felony charges of public indecency and indecent exposure, Doraville police spokesman Gene Callaway told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The woman who reported the incident, Karmaseh Mahn,  told CBS Atlanta the man was looking at a girl nearby while he fondled himself.

The police report said a library worker told Lloyd, 26, to "behave"  but they didn't call police.

"I took it upon myself to call because I didn't want him to get far away and out of reach of the Doraville Police Department," Mahn told the television station.

The head librarian and an assistant librarian reportedly resigned after the June 29 incident. Mayor Ray Jenkins did not return telephone messages left at his home.

The report also said the library staff did not call police previously when another man at the library unzipped his pants.
