The boyfriend of a woman who was supposedly injured at a downtown Atlanta hotel last month has been charged with her death.

According to police spokeswoman Kim Jones, officers were called to Atlanta Medical Center around 9 p.m. on Oct. 14 on a call regarding an unconscious female.

The woman, Kathleen Baxter, had severe brain injuries and was on a ventilator, Jones said.

“Her boyfriend, Wayne McWilliams, said that on the night of Oct. 13, he and the victim had been at the Westin hotel partying when the victim walked to the wrong elevator and slammed her head into the elevator door,” Jones said in an e-mail.

Baxter later died, and last Thursday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office ruled her death a homicide, Jones said.

On Saturday, investigators obtained a murder warrant for McWilliams. He was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Fulton County Jail.
