A Hampton man is accused of being a peeping Tom.
Police arrested James Kelley II after they say they caught him trying to run from the home of a woman who called to report a prowler.
On June 14 around midnight, Hampton police received a call about a prowler at a house in the 300 block of Cobblestone Court, according to police Capt. Derrick Austin.
Two officers responded. Kelley saw the first policeman and ran toward where the second officer was waiting, Austin told the AJC.
"He was wearing all black clothing and a hooded mask that covered his entire face," Austin said.
He said police found a small JVC video recorder behind the house. Kelley said it didn't belong to him, but he had a charger for a recorder in his pocket, Austin said.
The video recorder had several videos on it of different females at different locations. Austin said the recorder contained footage of women who lived in the neighborhood.
He said Kelley lived directly across the street from the woman who called police to report a prowler.
That woman, Kralphy Williams, told Channel 2 Action News that she saw some of the footage that was on the camera.
"One lady was like in her kitchen, looks like maybe doing something in her kitchen. She had on panties and a T-shirt. He was filming that," Williams said.
Austin said police are investigating whether Kelley, who works as a security guard, may be connected to other incidents. He said his department had received several calls from neighbors regarding a prowler over the past year. "So we're trying to tie and see if maybe this is the same subject."
Kelley was charged with eavesdropping, surveillance and with concealing his identity with a mask and hood device. He is being held at the Henry County jail.
