A “major’ sewage spill was reported Monday in Stone Mountain, the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management has confirmed.

An estimated 17,580 gallons of sewage had entered Snapfinger Creek as of Tuesday morning, according to DeKalb watershed officials. The leak was reported from a resident in the 4200 block of Redan Road.

Officials say the leak was caused by a fallen tree that damaged a manhole cover. Sand bags were placed inside the manhole to contain the spill.
