Major flooding in Gwinnett

Storms in Gwinnett brought flooding, mudslides and school closing. Several Gwinnett school buses at a lot near Parkview High on Cole Drive were affected by flood waters rushing through a flooded creek Monday morning following torrential rains in metro Atlanta.

Heavy rains forced the closing Monday of schools and of dozens of roads in Gwinnett -- mostly in the Lilburn and Snellville areas. In Lilburn flood waters overturned a school bus and pushed around several others like toys on a bus lot near Parkview High on Cole Drive.

The high water mark is at least 6-7 feet high on these Gwinnett County school buses. Several Gwinnett school buses at a lot near Parkview High on Cole Drive were affected by flood waters rushing through a flooded creek Monday morning following torrential rains in metro Atlanta.

Traffic comes to a crawl due to standing water on south and north bound I-85 at Spaghetti Junction early Monday morning.

In Stone Mountain torrential rain brought traffic to a halt to all lanes at Hwy 78 due to mudslides near Hugh Howel Road Monday. North bound was open to traffic while southbound into Atlanta was at snail pace.

Cleanup was in progress on southbound at Hwy 78. Mudslides slowed traffic across both north and south bound lanes Monday.

"I have water coming into the house in the crawl space and just shut off my air conditioning. This is unbelievable. The water is all the way around our house. Its the highest I've ever seen it," said Milton.

Gwinnett County DOT workers close the Connemara Trace SW road into a section of the Connemara Subdivison where residents are cut off in their homes Monday. The community had already canceled its Beach Bash due to the deluge.
