The Romano’s Macaroni Grill at the Mall of Georgia was damaged in a Monday afternoon fire, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.

An employee called 911 around 1 p.m. after seeing smoke coming from electrical outlets in a back storage area.

Smoke quickly filled the restaurant. The staff and about 25 patrons evacuated before firefighters arrived, according to a department release.

When a fire crew arrived light smoke was coming from the building and a fire was burning inside at the back of the restaurant. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but believed to be accidental, the release said. The restaurant will remain closed while it repairs the damage from the fire.
