The Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre in Mableton will receive nearly $500,000 in improvements by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

The roof system for the stage and backstage areas will be replaced for $203,679 by Garland/Design Build Solutions, Inc. Roof leaks have developed over the last several months at the amphitheatre at 5239 Floyd Road that was constructed in 2002, according to Cobb P.A.R.K.S. Director Jimmy Gisi in a Nov. 14 memo to Cobb County Manager Rob Hosack. The repairs will include a 30-year watertight warranty, he added.

Then for $294,980, Veteran Builders will clean, seal and restore the exterior walls of the amphitheatre, the restroom building, the office/concession building and the ticket booth - all of which have developed “unsightly discoloration and dark staining,” Gisi said. Also, the original joint sealants will be replaced with a clear water-repellent sealant since they have deteriorated, allowing water to penetrate these structures. No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with these projects.

Funding comes from the 2016 local penny sales tax.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
