A Cumming grandmother who works as a Walmart greeter says she won't retire despite winning $400,000 in the Georgia Lottery instant game Kings & Queens.

"I plan to get a new dishwasher, a new car, a new living room set, and that's about all," said Betty Finnemore, 74.

Finnemore bought her winning ticket at Quick Stop, 2383 Canton Highway in Cumming. She scratched it off in the store.

"I couldn't believe my eyes," she recalled. "I asked the cashier, ‘Am I seeing things?'"

Finnemore, who has two children and three grandchildren, has been a Walmart greeter for 19 years.

Meanwhile, Winder's cultural arts director, Donald Wildsmith, won $250,000 by matching the first five numbers in a Mega Millions drawing. Wildsmith, 63, bought the winning ticket at the Publix on Loganville Highway in Bethlehem.

Also Wednesday, the Georgia Lottery announced it is introducing a new regional game called Decades of Dollars. It is played in Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky, and the first drawing is Thursday.

Tickets are $2 each. Players must pick six of 47 numbers.

The top prize is $250,000 a year for 30 years or a $4 million cash option. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 10.7 million.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
