Six candidates qualified for the Nov. 7 Stone Mountain election, including veteran Mayor Patricia Wheeler who is unopposed.

Wheeler has been mayor for 18 years off and on since the 1980s. As incumbent she was defeated in 1997, 278 votes to 260, by Chuck E. Burris, the city’s first black mayor. This time around she’s been mayor since 2009.

Wheeler is the only incumbent running in Stone Mountain. In other races, City Council, Post 4 features Diana Roe Hollis against J. Michael Rollins. For City Council Post 5 Shawnette Bryant is unopposed. For City Council, Post 6, Judy F. Asher faces Jasmine I. Little.

Stone Mountain’s city council has six members.
