Longtime GSU leader Langdale dies

Photos trace the tenure of the late Noah N. Langdale as Georgia State University president.

Noah N. Langdale, who served as president of Georgia State University from 1957 through June 1988, died Saturday, Feb. 23. 2008.

Langdale, shown circa 1982, helped develop the school into a major university.

In his college days, Langdale played tackle for University of Alabama from 1937 to '41.

Langdale presents Dr. Benjamin Mays with the 1979 Golden Staff award for outstanding community service.

Then-UGA head football coach Vince Dooley presents Langdale with the 1980 National Jewish Hospital Humanitarian Award.

Langdale enjoys watermelon with his wife, Wiggie, while celebrating his 25th anniversary as president of GSU in 1982.

Langdale appears at his last GSU commencement in 1987.
