Marty McKinnon, who worked 16 years for City Schools Decatur, first as a para professional then later a library media clerk, died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. His funeral was held Friday. McKinnon, 64, who’d been at the 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue since it opened four years ago, worked the first quarter of this past school year before retiring. A nearly lifelong city resident, McKinnon Drive in southeast Decatur is named for his family. McKinnon is the second recently retired CSD staffer to pass away in the past month. Margaret Harris, who spent 21 years as a CSD nutrition worker, died on March 12.
