Atlanta singer-songwriter Ben Deignan will be performing at Park Tavern for July 4.

He’s asked five local drummers to play along with him.

They will be filling in for Lance Tilton, a member of Deignan's band who was killed in a single-car accident two months ago.

Tilton, 29, and fellow musician Jonathan Morrison were headed back to Atlanta from a late-night Cinco de Mayo gig in Chattanooga when Tilton, the driver, fell asleep, according to Georgia State Patrol.

Tilton died in the crash, Morrison was seriously injured.

Each drummer will sit in with Ben Deignan and his band – which until recently was called the Suburban Soul – and play two or three songs, Morrison said.

Tilton’s brother will also be there to raise money for the Lance Tilton Foundation – created to fund music education in Atlanta.

“It’s going to be a good experience,” said Morrison, 29.

Morrison, a bass guitar player with the Dave Matthews Cover Band, said the July 4 performance is one way to show that Deignan and his band will continue.

It also will pay tribute to their friend, he said.

“It will be a good thing all around,” said Morrison.

Morrison, whose injuries included a dislocated shoulder and cracked ribs, said he's started playing again about two weeks ago. He's balancing physical therapy with working on a new record as well as playing with Atlanta singer-songwriter Nic Cowan.
