The Lilburn Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Citizen’s Police Academy. This 13-week program is designed to educate and inform citizens about issues facing law enforcement efforts in the city.

The academy begins Feb. 21 and will meet 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Thursday night. Registrants must attend 10 of the 13 classes. Topics include crime prevention and community based policing, drugs, K9, traffic enforcement and accident investigations, criminal investigations, the use of force model and use of force training, firearms safety and the law, as well as a tour of the Gwinnett County Jail.

Applicants must be at least 21, with no prior felony arrests or crimes of moral turpitude, and no misdemeanor arrests within one year of the application. Candidates must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Preference given to those who live or work within the city limits of Lilburn. Registration deadline is Feb. 15.
