The Lilburn City Council denied a special use permit request Monday for AutoMax Atlanta to expand its existing location at 5034 Lawrenceville Highway.

AutoMax had hoped to expand the auto sales business to 2.3 acres with a showroom and overflow parking. The property is zoned for commercial development, but has never been developed commercially. A house and other structures on the property are in disrepair. A permit was approved in January to allow for auto sales at the location.

The city council denied the request because of code enforcement violations occurring since January.
