A Lilburn couple was released on $50,000 bond each this week in Maryland after being arrested and charged with stealing more than $800,000 from a relative by using a power of attorney that had been revoked.
Gregory and Katherine Hair allegedly stole the money from their relative's bank account this year, according to a Baltimoresun.com report, citing police documents.
The power of attorney the Hairs had to conduct business for Alexandra Jackson of Bel Air, Md., was revoked July 31, but on the same day the couple allegedly went to three Harford County banks to remove deposits in checking, savings and money market accounts, according to the authorities.
The alleged transactions included withdrawals of more than $500,000 from a Bank of America account and more than $218,000 from Baltimore County Savings Bank accounts. Police say the couple also stole $30,000 worth of jewelry from Jackson, left her without food to eat and forwarded her mail to Georgia.
The Hairs' familial relationship with Jackson was not reported. Efforts were being made Friday to reach the Hairs for comment. According to the Lilburn Chamber of Commerce's website, they own Hair Gregory A Katherine hair salon.
They face charges of abuse of a vulnerable adult family member, two counts of theft of $100,000-plus and two counts of theft between $10,000 and $100,000. They were taken to the Harford County Detention Center but were released after posting bond.
Katherine Hair was released from the Harford County Detention Center on Tuesday after posting bond, and Gregory Hair was released on Wednesday. Both were ordered to appear in Harford County district court on Sept. 17.
