Lightning strikes injure hiker, cause house fire

A man was reportedly struck by lightning on Kennesaw Mountain Wednesday afternoon as a series of storms passed through the metro area, producing heavy lightning, pea-sized hail and winds gusting up to 40 MPH.

According to WSB-TV, the man was pushing a child in a stroller in Kennesaw when the lightning struck. Witnesses told the station the victim was bleeding but conscious. The child was not injured.

Meanwhile, a Duluth townhouse sustained extensive damage after being struck by lightning Wednesday afternoon.

No one was home at the time, said Gwinnett Fire and Emergency spokesman Tommy Rutledge, and no injuries were reported.
