Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game
2:30 p.m.
Trinity University, San Antonio Texas
Admission is free
A few weeks ago Taryn Leiferman made her decision to head to Temple Junior College to continue her basketball career, but before she does that, the Smithville High School standout will get one more chance to play at the high school level.
Leiferman was selected to play on the Blue squad, one of only 24 participants to beselected from the 1A, 2A or 3A level. Her teammates will include Klara Bradshaw (Rains High School), Kennedy Farr (Smyer High School), Braylee Flaska (Brock High School), Alexus Freeman (Navasota High School), Hailey Jenkins (Martin’s Mill High School), Jordan Locke (Smyer High School), Lisa Nealey (Madisonville High School), Kaylee Prather (Elysian Fields High School), Victoria Stretcher (Saltillo High School), Stacey Underwood (Hico High School) and Imani Wright (Liberty Eylau High School).
The Smithville forward was selected to the Texas Association of Girls Basketball Coaches All-State Team in 2013 and helped lead the Lady Tigers to a 29-8 overall record and the state semifinals. The Lady Tigers captured the 3A Region IV and District 26-3A Championships along the way. Leiferman averaged 17.4 points, 7.6rebounds and one steal per game. Her 645 points were tops on the team.
Among her opponents in the all-star game will be guard Autumn Williams and coach Vance Hughes, both of Kennedale, which eliminated the Lady Tigers from the playoffs in 2013.
The game will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity University in San Antonio on May 17 and will part of the weekend’s Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Clinic. Admission is free to anyone who wants to attend. The game is the first of a quadruple-header to be played on that day.
