It is estimated that one third of the food we eat is thanks to pollinators like bees, butterflies and flower beetles. That’s why it’s increasingly important for residents in metro Atlanta to have yards and gardens that are safe for bees and promote pollination.
If you’re unsure how to do that, DeKalb County is here to help.
The county’s Cooperative Extension Office is hosting a series of “Space for Pollinators” classes in locations around DeKalb over the next two months.
The classes cost $25; attendees will learn how to make their garden a “haven” for pollinators and how to construct their own native bee hotel.
- The first class will be held July 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Briarwood Park Community Center Dance Room at 2235 Briarwood Way. The deadline to register is July 8.
- The second class will be on Aug. 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Brook Run Park greenhouse complex at 4770 N. Peachtree Road in Dunwoody. The deadline to register is July 26.
- The third and final class will be on Aug. 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the UGA Extension Auditorium at at 4380 Memorial Dr., Suite 200 in Decatur. The deadline to register is Aug. 9.
