The Lawrenceville City Council voted to use $18,255 in asset forfeiture funds to purchase of a dual purpose pre-trained narcotics and tracking dog from Vohne Liche Kennels Inc. The new police dog will replace K9 Eiko who recently passed away.

Lawrenceville police have purchased six dogs from the business over the last 18 years. A breakdown of the purchase includes the following items: a dual purpose narcotic detector dog six-week class for $6,000, a dual purpose pre-trained narcotics dog at $13,000, and housing for 41 days at $2,255. The department will also receive a combo discount of $3,000.

Eiko, an 8-year-old German shepherd police K9 officer, succumbed to cancer in May. He was credited with more than 100 criminal arrests and assisted in the largest heroin bust in Georgia history.
