The Lawrenceville City Council voted Monday to approve the use of asset forfeiture funds to purchase 65 sets of rifle plates, known as body armor. Low bidder Bullet Proof Me Body Armor of Austin, Texas will supply the Level III armor at a cost of $27,335.

According to police documents, when researching this additional front and back armor, the department considered weight, ballistic protection and ease of putting on the equipment.

Asset forfeiture funds result from the seizure of money or proceeds resulting from criminal activity. The purpose of asset forfeiture is to disrupt criminal activity by confiscating assets that potentially could have been beneficial to the individual or organization.
