The Lawrenceville City Council voted unanimously recently to approve $186,000 for a comprehensive rewrite of the city’s zoning ordinance. The city’s current zoning ordinance has not been completely updated in several decades. Planning theory, zoning practice and development design philosophies have evolved greatly over those years, and as a result the city’s ordinance contains standards that are outdated and difficult to administer.

The contract goes to the highest scoring firm of three bidders, Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. and will consist of evaluating, writing, and implementing comprehensive zoning ordinances. The contract is funded by the consulting and planning fund.
