The Lawrenceville Police Department released a statement July 14 announcing the need to return to normal operations regarding public gatherings. Moving forward, demonstrations and/or any organized public events must go through the standard approval process outlined by the city’s ordinance.

According to the city’s statement, “The City of Lawrenceville’s Parades and Assemblies Ordinance was designed with public safety in mind, but also allows citizens’ voices to be heard by the general public. Following the standard approval process will also ensure the proper allocation of city resources.”

“As the primary law enforcement agency for those who live and work in the City of Lawrenceville, it is our duty to protect all citizens equally. With that responsibility comes the task of enforcing laws while giving public voice to our citizens.”

The city will also enforce state laws like “Pedestrian in the Roadway” and “Illegal Stopping in the Roadway.”

Those interested in conducting a demonstration or protest may download the Public Assembly Application or contact the Community Relations Department at 678-407-6653.
