Lawrenceville City Manager Chuck Warbington updated the City Council Monday evening on progress being made on a new public works facility. The project on West Pike Street is slated for a groundbreaking in February with ambitious plans to complete construction and be ready for move in by the end of this year.

The public works facility will bring together the city’s services including damage prevention, gas and electric departments, fleet maintenance, streets and sanitation. The $17,250,000 budget has an additional $2 million added to cover rock, design and construction contingencies.

In discussing the expense, Council member Tony Powell noted, “the guys and women who fill up that building (current public works facility) have worked in the worst conditions of any utility in the state. Not for a little while, but for 30 years. It is time.”
