The Lawrenceville City Council voted recently to approve the expansion of the Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home at 278 Hurricane Shoals Road near Buford Drive. The expansion will take over and replace the former Mundy’s Collision Center buildings and fenced storage area, which is moving across the street.

Byrd and Flanigan plans to redevelop the property with a new 5,000-square-foot funeral home/assembly hall and a 4,000-square-foot pet crematory building. A total of 72 parking spaces will be added to the existing 84 spaces.

Conditions for approval include the new buildings must be constructed with full architectural treatments of brick, stone and stucco to match and compliment the main, adjacent funeral home building. Guidelines also require a minimum of 6 street trees and 18 evergreen shrubs along the Hurricane Shoals frontage and a minimum of 7 parking lot trees.
