The Lawrenceville City Council on Wednesday approved a zoning request for a funeral home and crematorium at 288 Hurricane Shoals Road. The 3-1 vote came after a public hearing on the matter with no opposition from those in attendance.

The property is currently developed as a retail strip center surrounded by light industrial businesses near State Route 316. The proposal plans for two suites at the north end of the center to be used as office, chapel, viewing and sales area while the suite at the south end of the building will house embalming and cremation services. In an amendment to the initial request, the applicant clarified there will be no need for outdoor storage of any kind.
