The Lawrenceville City Council voted Monday to approve an updated online payment service that will add an interactive voice response system for payments by phone and allow credit card payments for in-person transactions. Currently, customers making payments at city hall are required to provide cash, check or money order.

The updated online system will also eliminate the current 24-48 waiting period for transactions to be posted to a customer’s account. With the addition of payments by phone, customers will be able to make transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The system will cost $8,800 for software and installation with yearly support costs estimated at $2,200. Four magnetic stripe readers costing a total of $360 are required for the teller stations.
