A major Marietta intersection was shut down Saturday night by a large water main break.

The broken main was near the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Street, close to the local landmark known as the “Big Chicken.”

Marietta police said at 8:30 p.m. Saturday that Cobb Parkway and Roswell Street were shut down in both directions, as was nearby Gresham Road.

Crews were able to cap the main just before 11 p.m. Saturday, but they said they were investigating what caused the main to burst.

Officials said they expect the intersection to be shutdown for hours as they fix the main and repair the road.
