After closing in February due to safety hazards caused by flooding, repairs will take place this fall and winter, and West Bank Park at Lake Lanier is expected to reopen by March, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced.

“Conditions at the park are now favorable for repairs,” said Timothy Rainey, operations project manager at the Lake Lanier Project Office. “While you may see the barricades moved and the gate open, please do not enter the park. This is only for the entering and exiting of work crews.”

The corps also asked the public not to park outside the gate, as that could interfere with maintenance operations. The park is on Buford Dam Road on the Forsyth County side of Lake Lanier.

Crews will be installing concrete walls to replace worn-out, hazardous wooden retaining walls; restoring picnic sites damaged by erosion; removing dead and hazardous trees; stabilizing the shoreline; repairing pumps and controls of septic systems; dealing with sink holes, and ensuring handicapped access, officials said.
