Drivers heading north on I-85 will encounter delays at night due to lanes closures through Feb. 28. Georgia Department of Transportation recently began northbound and southbound lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. on I-85 to allow construction partner Georgia Bridge and Concrete to install bird netting and protective platforms in advance of construction.

Work on the bridge replacement projects will start in May and reconstruct five existing bridges over I-85 in Franklin and Jackson counties: Plainview Road, Neal Road, Cedar Ridge Road, Old Stagecoach Road, and Brown Road.

Crews will only execute one lane closure per bridge at a time, switching from northbound to southbound lanes on consecutive nights. After the northbound work is complete, crews will stage and begin work on the next bridge.

Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers. Real-time information on work status and traffic conditions: call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
