Lane changes ahead for Old Alabama in Johns Creek
As part of its continuing widening of Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek, the Georgia Department of Transportation will shift traffic to newly paved lanes starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
Eastbound traffic will shift to the new lanes, while westbound traffic will remain in its current single-lane configuration, according to GDOT. The current eastbound lanes will be closed so that contractors can build a median and move to the third phase of construction.
Old Alabama is being widened from three to four lanes, separated by a 20-foot median, from Buice to Medlock Bridge roads. A 5-foot-wide sidewalk will be constructed next to the eastbound lanes; a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail, next to the westbound lanes; and a new left-turn lane, from Medlock Bridge to Old Alabama.
The project is to be completed this fall.
