An area of Lake Lanier known as the “Styrofoam graveyard” is targeted for cleanup, the Gainesville Times reported.

Several civic groups plan to remove tons of the debris next week from an area near Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Hall County, according to the report.

Hall County commissioners agreed to waive landfill fees for up to 25 tons of the material pulled from the site, the report said.

“It’s extremely heavy (debris), and it’s going to take major manpower and machine power to remove these items,” said Kelly Norman, director of Keep Hall Beautiful.
