Know the signs: Kennesaw police warn of a possible new phone scam
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a Kennesaw police officer, it may not be true, the agency warned Wednesday.
The Kennesaw Police Department received a call Monday about the possible scam of someone impersonating a city officer.
The person reported that they got a call from someone claiming to be "Captain Rolland with the Kennesaw Police Department."
When you call the number back, it takes you to a voicemail saying "you have reached the civil warrant section of the Kennesaw Police Department" and asks for your name and number.
The department wants to make clear that it does not make calls asking for payments for traffic citations or warrants. Officers serve warrants in person.
