4 killed in Bartow County wreck
Four people were killed in a Bartow County wreck Monday afternoon, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Two vehicles were involved in the wreck, which happened just before 4 p.m. on S.R. 140 near the intersection with Big Oak Tree Road, Gordy Wright with the state patrol told the AJC.
A Kia Sportage traveling west on S.R. 140 crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Buick LeSabre head-on, Wright said. Three of the victims were in the Buick, he said.
The driver of the Kia was identified as 57-year-old Ralph Jimmy Ivie of Summerville, Wright said. Ivie died at the scene of the wreck.
J.R. Tucker, 81, of Trion, was driving the Buick. He and a passenger, 82-year-old Margaret E. Crews of Griffin, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, 76-year-old Gene Tucker, of Trion, died while being flown by helicopter to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga, according to the state patrol.
Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
