Two young children were in critical condition after their minivan was T-boned by a Cobb Community Transit bus Tuesday afternoon in Smyrna, police said.
The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Windy Hill Road near Old Spring Road. The van was hit while pulling out of a nearby day care center, Channel 2 Action News reported.
It was unclear who was at-fault in the crash, but Smyrna police spokesman Louis Defense said, in addition to the injured children, one adult had to be extricated from the van. That person’s condition was unclear.
There were also “multiple complaints” of injury by bus passengers, Defense said.
There were a total of three children in the minivan, all between 2 and 6 years old, Defense said. One of them was ejected from the vehicle. All three were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
Windy Hill Road was reopened by 4 p.m.
Early Tuesday evening, Cobb County released a statement about the crash.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver, the children, their families and their caregivers involved in the accident in Smyrna this afternoon,” the statement said. “As always, county staff will cooperate as needed with the city of Smyrna Police Department on the investigation as it progresses.
