Kennesaw to consider 2 entertainment districts

Establishing two entertainment districts to allow open containers of alcoholic beverages are under consideration in Kennesaw.

Kennesaw Mayor Derek Easterling and the City Council will conduct public hearings on this new law at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 and 22 in the City Council Chambers, Kennesaw City Hall, 2529 J. O. Stephenson Ave., Kennesaw.

They also will decide whether to change Chapter 6 “Alcoholic Beverages” in the City Code.

Among the changes are:

• Adding this definition for "Open Container" that means "any container of an alcoholic beverage which is immediately capable of being consumed from, or the seal of which has been broken."
• Including that "no establishment licensed to sell or serve alcohol within an entertainment district will be required to offer open containers of alcohol for sale to its customers or to allow patrons to enter the establishment with open containers of alcohol purchased or obtained from outside the establishment."
• Adding that "the boundaries of any entertainment district within the City of Kennesaw shall be established by the Mayor and Council and may be amended from time to time by the Mayor and Council under the procedures set out in the City Charter for amending an ordinance."

For public viewing, a copy of the five-page proposed ordinance and maps is on file in the Office of the City Clerk from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, also at City Hall.
