Kennesaw will break ground Monday on a downtown pedestrian underpass. The project, which includes a 115-foot tunnel under the CSX railroad tracks, should take six months to complete.

The walkway will run from the downtown commercial district on the west side of the tracks to Depot Park and the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History on the east side. A ceremony to start the project will be at 4:30 p.m.

“The pedestrian underpass will help make the downtown area safer and more pedestrian-friendly,” said Mayor Mark Mathews. The project will cost $2,950,512, with most of the money coming from state and federal transportation funds. RALPH ELLIS
