Atlanta’s bike share program, Relay, is expanding with more than 500 bikes at 65 locations.

The city of Atlanta's bike share program is expanding, and it couldn't come at a better time given the city's recent traffic woes.

The Relay program will grow from 100 bikes at 22 stations to 500 bikes at 65 locations, according to a news release. The program, which is operated by Cyclehop on behalf of the city, was announced in March 2015 and launched in June 2016.

Mayor Kasim Reed will attend a community event for Relay's expansion Wednesday. He'll be joined by Georgia's Own Credit Union executive Adam Marlowe, Cyclehop General Manager Dan Murphy, Atlanta Commissioner Tim Keane and Atlanta Chief Bicycle Officer Becky Katz. V-103 radio host Frank Ski will emcee the event.

The public event will include a formal program, food trucks, giveaways and interactive games for children.

City officials, including Reed, will take a three-mile ride in Piedmont Park, on the Atlanta BeltLine and through Virginia-Highland.
The event begins Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive Gate entrance to Piedmont Park, 521 Park Drive NE.
