A person on a moped was killed Wednesday night when a car jumped a median and hit the scooter head-on, DeKalb County police said.

The collision happened in the 600 block of Hambrick Road, just south of Memorial Drive outside the city of Pine Lake. The driver of the moped was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities responded around 11:40 p.m.

Police determined the moped was headed south and was hit by a Dodge Charger traveling north. The lanes are divided by a wide grassy median.

The driver of the Dodge was detained and is being interviewed by investigators, DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer told AJC.com. Neither driver was identified Thursday.
