A DeKalb County jury recently awarded a shooting victim $5.25 million from an apartment complex it blames for his attack.

Nathaniel Polite will receive about $4.5 million from the owners of the Stone Bridge apartments for the injuries that left him paralyzed. Apartment owner Double View Ventures and manager Westdale Asset Management is expected to appeal.

Polite was shot in 2009 as he walked along a path between the complex and a nearby store. His lawyers argued the complex’s owner was negligent because it didn’t fence the area off or respond to other attacks along the trail.

Polite’s attackers were never caught.
